Chapter 22 - Lecturer of Magic Academy
Chapter 22 - Lecturer of Magic Academy
The next morning.
I came to the Magic Academy.
I started work as a part-time lecturer.
After sending Meryl to the classroom, I headed to the principal\'s office.
Marilyn was waiting there.
"I\'m glad you\'ve come. Please take care of me from today."
"Likewise. Please take care of me as well."
"Good reply. I\'m looking forward to it. As a part-time lecturer, you will be the assistant lecturer of Meryl\'s class."
"Assistant lecturer...?"
"Umu. I want you to assist with this fellow, Norman, the homeroom lecturer. He\'ll teach you everything you don\'t understand."
Marilyn introduced the man who was waiting by her side.
"Funn……"
A man called Norman pushed his glasses with his finger.
Is his age the same as or a little older than me?
A slim body.
A solemn look that seemed to be dislike joke.
The confidence that poured from his whole body.
He looked like an elite magician.
"He maybe looks like an unfriendly and prideful man――but he is a skilled magician. There are many things we should learn from each other, right? I hope you will get along with him."
We left the principal\'s office.
We were walking down the corridor leading to the classrooms.
"I don\'t get it"
Norman murmured in a low and firm voice.
"Our lecturers have been composed only of graduates of this magic academy for generations. You are not even a graduate, are you."
"Yes. I\'m not a graduate."
"And even though it\'s part-time, it\'s a special case. And even if its purpose in order to Meryl attend the class, I don\'t know why an unknown magician must be――"
Norman sighed in exasperation.
"Meryl\'s genius is undisputed. She is one of the best in the history of this magic academy. But her parent is nothing. An unknown magician serving as a lecturer here is just a disgrace to the history of our academy."
Certainly, it would not be pleasant from the lecturer\'s point of view.
Of course, it has already factored in.
"I didn\'t take the job as a lecturer for the sake of being liked by you. I only did so because the principal asked me to. He hoped it would be for my daughter\'s sake, and by extension, the academy\'s sake. So it doesn\'t matter what the lecturers think of me."
Know your stuff.
"Hmm...you third-class magician. How idiot."
Norman distorted his expression unpleasantly.
After a while, we arrived in front of the classroom. I went inside after Norman. The interior was like a lecture room at a university.
The students\' seats were arranged in a terraced pattern from the lecturer\'s desk.
"Ah! It\'s Papa! Papa~?"
When Meryl who at the back seat noticed me, she waved her hands.
I waved back with a bitter smile.
"Be quiet!!"
Norman banged the lecturer\'s desk and raised his voice.
"He\'s Kaizer――a part-time lecturer and assistant lecturer. That\'s all. Now let\'s get the class started."
With a brief introduction, Norman tried to move into class.
It seemed that he didn\'t want to spend any more time on introduce me.
He was quite unhappy with it.
Norman was teaching magic syntax.
Usually was verbally, and occasionally blackboard writing.
....I see. That\'s pretty impressive.
But――.
Maybe Norman himself was an excellent magician. But, his explanation was difficult to understand, and the majority of the students couldn\'t follow.
――You have to teach them more to the point.
"Meryl! YOU! Don\'t sleep in my class!"
"……Munya?"
Meryl was dozing off soundly. Then she raised her face in the response to the yelling voice, and she leaked out a yawn.
"Because Norman-sensei\'s class is boring. I think it would be more interesting if Papa did it."
"Wh――!"
Norman had a vein on his temple.
"Don\'t mess with me! You think my teaching is below this unknown guy? There\'s no way! Don\'t talk nonsense!"
It must be very annoying.
He shouted loudly, spittle drops were flying.
"It\'s true, though!"
Meryl didn\'t look as if she was offended.
Since Meryl\'s track record as a magician was far superior to Norman\'s, she could talk back to him as she wanted to. Besides, what Meryl said made the students around wondering was I better at teaching than Norman? There was an atmosphere like that.
"...Fine. If you\'re going to go that far, why don\'t show to me? The your favorite father\'s class!"
Norman said, then turned to me.
"Kaizer. Teach the class in my place."
"――Yes?"
"After you have done, we will test it. If they exceed the average score, I will recognize you."
It was already time for me to teach, huh.
........well, I was also a paid part-time lecturer. It was uncomfortable to stand by Norman\'s side and watched by him all the time.
I had to contribute to the academy in a way that was commensurate with the salary I received.
\'\'I understand. Then."
I agreed and replaced Norman at the podium.
"You. Have you ever taught before?"
"No. I\'ve only ever taught Meryl before."
"Is that so. At least, do your best."
Norman chuckled.
I\'ll enjoy the way you fail――that was the expression on his face.
Human relations were such a hassle thing, yes.
I gave a bitter smile and turned to the students.
"Then. Let\'s resume our magic syntax class."
Then the class started.
Unlike the class Norman had just conducted, I replaced the difficult explanations with something familiar and easy to understand.
And to avoid boredom, I asked the students some appropriate questions and mixed in some humor.
Then――.
The students who hadn\'t been able to keep up Norman\'s class earlier started to listen to me without losing the light of interest in their eyes.
"I see. So that\'s how it is...!"
"That\'s pretty straightforward."
"Kaizer-sensei\'s class is so interesting!"
The students\' reactions were visibly different.
They all became more interested in the class as they began to understand the lesson. They also were more willing to take the lesson more forward.
The atmosphere in the classroom was lively, and occasionally loud laughs occurred.
"Gunuu...!"
Norman watched and gritted his teeth.
"Yosh. That\'s all for now. If you have any questions later, you can come ask me.――But, we\'ll have a test first."
I handed out the test papers I received from Norman to everyone.
"The class was definitely exciting. But! Whether or not the students understood the contents of the lesson is another story!"
Norman raised his voice.
"If you\'re just want to liven up the class, you just bring in a street performer! The question is, did the student gain a better understanding of magic or not!"
But――.
The movement of the pen that ran on the students\' test papers was nimble. After a while, they collected them and the two lecturers divided it and score it.
Norman\'s complexion changed when he saw the results.
"Th, this\'s ridiculous...! The average score has gone up more than ten points...! Are you saying that your class is better than mine...?"
"I\'m not sure if yours are better or worse," I said. "But, I\'m sure everyone in the class is excellent"
If you taught them properly, they would absorb it like a sponge. I was sure they will become excellent magicians in the future.
"Kuh...! I\'m not going to let this end...!"
Norman let out a hateful voice.
........……Yare yare.
I\'d rather it be over like this.
