Chapter 255: Nest (1)
Chapter 255: Nest (1)
"Let\'s go." Zhang Qin Feng ordered as they get ready to depart from the Wind Base. A truck carrying ten soldiers, including the driver, followed closely behind Satella\'s car as they traveled towards the Strand Line Electronic Recycling Hub.
Except for a few zombie\'s presences on their way, there\'s nothing much for them to worry about. And with the Luna Device\'s sensor upgrade, Zhang Qin Feng can practically expand his scanner a kilometer outward from his position. This allows him to grasp the zombie\'s movement and make a decision accordingly.
Unless their numbers were too concentrated at one point, it was alright for the party to ignore them. After all, the objective for today was to check what is beneath the bunker. Even if Zhang Qin Feng were a moving arsenal with all sorts of backups and provisions, it would be best for them to complete this task.
The reason is the zombies were in the open, but not the secret beneath this bunker\'s door. Based on the risk alone, they can ignore the zombie for a week without worrying something unusual would happen, but not this bunker.
Once the two vehicles arrived at the parking, Zhang Qin Feng gave it some time to collect the recyclable debris around the parking area. This is to secure a route safe for them to drive their vehicle further into the parking, all the way outside of the exit they took yesterday.
With the soldiers working on his behalf, they made their entry into the facility first.
About five minutes later, a communication came from the secure channel on their Luna Device.
"Boss, we\'ve secure the facility. It is safe to come in. Right now, our men are busy piling up the goods for your convenience. If you see any trouble, please let us know." Queenie reported. She led the others further to the end of the facility, leaving only Satella with Zhang Qin Feng and two soldiers accompanying them.
After clearing the remaining materials around the room with the bunker\'s entrance, Zhang Qin Feng followed their tracks and grabbed the remaining goods from this facility. Nothing was left except for the concrete used to construct this building, along with worthless manmade materials that can be replaceable at any time.
Leaving the two soldiers guarding the bunker\'s door, Satella followed Zhang Qin Feng all the way until the end of the facility to meet up with Queenie and the others.
It was evident that there\'s a short battle over here based on the smell of gunpowder in the air. While Zhang Qin Feng and Satella\'s weapon have been replaced by the Thunderbolt Rifle and Delta-Model Pistol, the others still rely on the older Centurion and Phalanx Weaponry.
"Are there zombies around here?" Zhang Qin Feng asked. He finds it questionable because, based on his understanding, the zombies should be concentrated inside the building and not outside.
Unless…
"Queenie, Satella, get our men to search around this place. I think there\'s something fishy over here." Zhang Qin Feng\'s imagination that came from watching too many horror films and playing games made him comes up with such suspicion.
If his suspicion is correct, there should be something over here that made the zombies gathered here instead of inside the facility. Unfortunately, he was here too late.
By looking at the zombies lying on the ground, it couldn\'t give him an idea of what, where, and why they\'re gathered here.
"Boss! We found something!" one of the soldiers raised his hand for Zhang Qin Feng\'s attention as he came across a ventilation gate.
From the outside, this spot doesn\'t seem to be out of the ordinary. One would have to take apart the ventilation gate to noticed that it was not a hole but a door instead.
The problem here is this access point is locked from the inside. This place is likely an exit, but it still doesn\'t explain why the zombies are concentrated here. Zhang Qin Feng tried to rely on Stein\'s scanner but found nothing different.
He knew that they might get some answers if they get into the woods, but after considering the risk, he decided to scrap this idea aside.
"Let us get back to the facility where the bunker door is located." Zhang Qin Feng said. Since there\'s nothing else to be done here, there\'s only one more objective for them to come here.
The Plasma Cutter used to cut apart thick bunker steel was brought out from the truck as four soldiers with a gas mask worked together to cut apart the bunker\'s door.
It was a considerably thick door because even with four plasma cutters, it still takes them about half an hour to get through the locks. After ensuring that the air concentration was not dangerous for them, glowing sticks were gradually thrown into the tunnel leading downward.
Judging from how long it took for the glowing sticks to reach the ground, Stein\'s computing power deducted that this entrance is about 500meters deep. But the problem is that a different response came from a few glowing sticks they threw in there.
The ten soldiers discussed it for a while before one soldier volunteered to get down there to check. At the same time, He\'ll be assembling some light disks on his way to help illuminates the entire tunnel going down.
"Alright, boss. I\'ll be going down now!" the soldier said. Attaching the safety pins around his back and waist with the cable from the truck, he slowly controlled his own descending speed. The communication line was opened at all times to keep everyone updated on the above.
About 300 meters into the tunnel, this soldier found out an extension, which looked like the door out of a lift. They found this bunker door should work like a lift going up and down if he was not mistaken.
But for some unexplainable reason, it is no longer usable.
By the time he came to the bottom of the tunnel, there\'s only one way to go. The door on this base was already opened, and it was by force from the look of it.
"Boss… Not good." the soldier gently whispered like he had seen something scarier than a ghost.
"Come up if something is wrong. Don\'t risk it." Zhang Qin Feng said. He pointed at another soldier to get ready to pull the cable back up.
"Cut the cable! Cut the cable! This is a… Ty… Rant!" the cable holding the soldier went out of control by the time he was out of contact with everyone upstairs.
