Demons Beside You

Chapter 318 - Can Still Be Saved

Chapter 318: Can Still Be Saved

“He killed my little brother. Ivan really worshipped Morgery at that time, treating him like an idol. Ivan even joined his gang, but then he disappeared for three full years without any explanation.”

Chen Zhao couldn’t reply. If Morgery caused someone closest to him to die, he would probably react like this too.

“I’ll take you to see Morgery,” Chen Zhao said. “West End Forest Park is so big. You might not find him. I’ll take you there.”

Chen Zhao thought that Morgery was voluntarily coming to repay his debt by contacting Gaia. Even if Chen Zhao didn’t lead Gaia, Morgery would still appear before him.

If Gaia really wanted to kill Morgery, Chen Zhao had to stop her. He couldn’t just watch Gaia kill him, right?

Gaia didn’t refuse. Chen Zhao drove to the West End Forest Park.

There’d been two rain storms since the last time he went there, so the ground was all muddy.

Just then, he noticed that Gaia had a gun on her hip. Oh no! Gaia was really out for blood!

Chen Zhao gulped. As promised, Morgery appeared before Gaia, standing before a small hill.

“Gaia...” Chen Zhao’s eyes were filled with concern.

But Gaia didn’t plan on wasting time talking to Morgery. She pulled out her gun!

Bang, bang, bang.

All three bullets buried into Morgery and he fell to the ground.

Gaia turned and left. Chen Zhao rushed to Morgery. One bullet had hit his artery, one in his chest, and one in his stomach.

Morgery’s pupils were already dilated and blood bubbled in his mouth. Chen Zhao hurriedly performed surgery on him, pouring a mouthful of the perfect crystal potion into him.

Then he took out acupuncture needles to stop the bleeding.

“Don’t close your eyes. Open them. Open your eyes.”

Chen Zhao kept slapping Morgery’s face, but the man was already losing consciousness. Chen Zhao tried his best to save Morgery.

He didn’t think that Gaia would be so decisive and regretful. Chen Zhao had thought that Gaia would play a game of cat and mouse before.

Instead, Gaia had come with the intention to kill Morgery.

There were no other words. It was just cold-blooded murder.

Right now, the most troublesome part was that Morgery’s artery was scraped by the bullet. Blood kept spewing out with no restraint.

Morgery was at the brink of death. It was Chen Zhao’s first time feeling so panicked. He had to repair the artery, but what could he use?

Regular medication obviously wouldn’t work. Chen Zhao wracked his mind. Various medications flashed past his mind and he rejected them all.

Finally, Chen Zhao thought of an ointment.

The cohesive ointment was mostly made up of demons’ sticky saliva. Its main function was to repair injured parts. As long as the cohesive ointment was applied to a wound, it would mend the area quickly and have certain functional effects.

Put simply, if someone cut his arm off and used the ointment to stick it back on, he could manage to move his arm.

The cohesive ointment could temporarily act as a transmitter for the nervous system. The injured would temporarily recover a bit of function. Of course, it wouldn’t be complete.

Chen Zhao’s hands were covered in blood. He applied the cohesive ointment on Morgery’s artery with his bare hands.

The scene was too bloody, but he didn’t have the time to care about hygiene. Saving Morgery’s life was the most important thing right now. Everything else could come later.

Whoosh—

Morgery suddenly let out a long exhale. “I...” he rasped out. “I’m not dead?”

Chen Zhao slapped his sticky hand on Morgery’s face. “Next time you want to die, call Gaia yourself.”

Chen Zhao wrapped Morgery’s neck in gauze. The man was very weak right now. Chen Zhao still had to extract the bullet in his chest and stomach.

Morgery looked weakly at him. “Gaia knows you can save me... She didn’t want to kill me.”

“Bullsh*,” Chen Zhao shot back. “Barely anyone could save you from your condition just then. She really wanted to kill you.”

“With her aim, she could just shoot my head if she wanted to kill me.”

“Okay, whatever you say.”

To be honest, Chen Zhao couldn’t figure out if Gaia really wanted to kill Morgery or just get over the knot in her heart.

No matter what, Morgery’s life was saved.

“Take a nap.” Chen Zhao gave Morgery some anesthesia.

Morgery quietly closed his eyes. With Chen Zhao beside him, he could sleep in peace.

Then Chen Zhao took out all the material he’d prepared for Morgery: a lot of food, a mattress, bedsheets, a blanket, and clothes to change into.

A few hours later, Morgery woke up to a delicious smell. He opened his eyes and saw Chen Zhao roasting something outside the cave. When he turned back, he saw the stuff in his cave.

“Chen, how much did you move here?”

“My car’s big. I could bring quite a lot.” Chen Zhao walked in with a piece of meat and gave it to Morgery.

“Are you sure I can eat it?”

“Eat,” Chen Zhao said. “No matter what bad shape you’re in, it can’t be worse than before.”

Morgery had an injured neck now. Any slight movement would affect it, so he could only chew slowly and carefully.

But it was his first time eating meat in a few days. He felt very satisfied.

“I might not have time to come over for a few days,” Chen Zhao said.

“You’ve already done enough for me.”

“Live well. Don’t look for death again.”

“I won’t.”

“Contact me if you need anything.”

“Okay. Thanks, Chen.”

Chen Zhao dragged his exhausted body back to his car. When he saw Gaia sitting there still, Chen Zhao froze. “You didn’t leave?”

“You didn’t give me the keys. How do I leave?” Gaia said matter-of-factly.

Chen Zhao looked at the car door. It was clearly broken into. Since Gaia could force open the door, she obviously could start the car without keys.

She stayed just to wait for news about Morgery.

Now, Chen Zhao believed Morgery when he said Gaia didn’t plan on killing him. In the end, she still had feelings for Morgery.

Chen Zhao laughed and Gaia glared at him. “What are you laughing at?”

Chen Zhao wiped his mouth and focused on driving, not talking anymore.

“I don’t care if he’s dead or not, but our old scores are resolved now.”

Chen Zhao pretended he didn’t hear anything. If Gaia really wanted to end things, she would’ve been less merciful.

However, this may be the best result.

“If you keep laughing, I’ll shoot you.” Seemingly pissed off by Chen Zhao, Gaia pointed the muzzle of the gun at Chen Zhao’s temple.

“Okay, okay, I won’t laugh. Move the gun. I hate having a gun pointed at me.”

Bang.
