Chapter 278: Beginning of Invasion (Amon Raid) (2)
“They will come.”
“Of course.”
“We should get ready then.”
Joonbum looked at the sun dipping down over the horizon. Jinpok mumbled as he prepared his rations and Doral answered. Jinpok then used a fork to pick a large slice of ham from the rations.
“Whoa. This is quite good.”
He then began drinking beer while eating his rations as Joonbum started eating as well.
“It’s nice.”
“Yeah. Ham from Earth is too salty for my taste.”
“Is ham very salty here?”
“Yes, Earth uses a lot of salt.”
Lee Chulmin jumped in to answer Doral’s question.
Darkness quickly fell. It was so dark from within the forest and soldiers used night vision goggles to keep watch.
“There are hundreds of those Amon. I think the other troops are facing similar numbers.”
“Other troops?” Joonbum asked in puzzlement, and Chulmin answered, “The 12th battalion of the northern army seems to be facing the most Amon. We have reports that they are facing two hundred of them.”
“Is that too much for them?”
“No, Your Majesty. I think they can take on at least three hundred.”
The northern army consisted of three hundred thousand troops that were divided into a thousand battalions. Each battalion had three hundred soldiers. This was due to the fact that smaller groups were more effective against monsters. If humans formed a massive group with too many numbers, monsters would rather hide or flee. Khalodian needed to wipe out the monsters, so that wasn’t a good idea. This division also applied to the southern and central armies.
‘Can we really save the people out there?’
The burden was getting heavier as they advanced. They were fighting well against the Amon but it was only the beginning.
‘I hope I am not doing this because of my own selfish interest.’
Joonbum thought to himself, but a cannon was fired and he broke out of his thoughts at that sound. Someone shot a signal fire and the soldiers began to fight against the Amon. Poison arrows and bolts were fired from bows and crossbows as the Amon fell, one by one. After a continuous stream of arrows and bolts, the monsters began to fall back.
“They are running! Shoot’em down with the cannon!”
Small cannons that shot thousands of metal pieces were fired. It was like a disaster to those fleeing monsters.
“Stop! Hold your fire!”
The battle was over. The sounds of monsters moaning soon faded and everything became quiet.
‘So, this is the empire.’
A young knight stared in disbelief.
‘They are not like our king. We were fools.’
It was now understandable how the foreign noble built an empire and ruled over the entire world. It was easy to see why everyone in the world worshipped this emperor. Over hundreds of Amon attacked but the soldiers overpowered them with ease. What was more amazing was that the soldiers reacted casually to the victory.
-Son, you must go and learn. For your sake and your future. See the truth and learn. The world will change and you should not fight it. So go and see for yourself.-
He hated Khalodian and hated everyone who worshiped Khalodian. That’s when his father Marquis Hendel Lockea sent him as a volunteer to the Khalodian Army. And he proved to be right in doing that.
