Chapter 213
You’re a person who’s about to get married. Don’t even think about it!
But when he thought about what Chen Shuyi said earlier, Lu Lixing’s brow knitted. He opened his web browser and looked up recent news related to Ji Qingqing.
With regards to the matter about Ji Qingqing and Ji Chengxi heading back to the apartment last night, although Ji Qingqing’s team responded and made a statement to clarify that the mysterious male was her biological brother, there were still mocking comments and curses directed to Ji Qingqing under the hashtag.
How unsightly.
After Ji Qingqing gave Ji Chengxi a copy of the apartment key, she left the apartment and returned to the Lu’s house on the same afternoon. Once she entered the house, she was called by Old Lu to go to the study room.
Lu Lixing was busy with work so Old Lu took on the preparation for the wedding. All the betrothal gifts and other things required were fully written on a piece of paper.
Ji Qingqing only took a casual glance, and the digits of money written on the paper made her speechless.
“Qingqing ah, Grandpa is not asking about anything serious. I just want to ask you, when your parents are free. Let’s have both sides of the family meet? To discuss the dowry.”
“Meet my parents?”
Ji Qingqing saw Old Lu’s warm gaze and smiled. “Ok Grandpa, I’ll ask my parents about it and see when they are free.”
Though she said that, in her mind, Ji Qingqing didn’t think of it that way.
She absolutely did not want Old Lu to be pestered by the Ji parents.
He’s already old. How can he even tolerate the noisiness and loudness of the Ji parents? Elders like Old Lu should just enjoy a peaceful and quiet retirement in their late years without any distractions. He shouldn’t be troubled by our matters.
Old Lu handed that piece of paper over to Ji Qingqing. “You’ve been living here for quite a while so Grandpa won’t treat you as an outsider. Take a look at these. Whether you can accept this or not, feel free to directly tell Grandpa.”
It was then that Ji Qingqing carefully looked at the contents written on that paper.
Due to his old age, Old Lu was more used to brush and paper. His brushstrokes were decisive and each stroke had the aura of a distinguished household. While Ji Qingqjng admired Old Lu’s writing, she was eventually shocked by the list of things he had written. Within the list, there were even the Lu corporation shares.
Ji Qingqing gasped. “Grandpa, this… is too extravagant. I can’t accept it!”
“It’s not extravagant. This is the gift Grandma entrusted me to give to you. If you don’t accept it, how will Grandma rest in peace?”
“But…”
“You’re not allowed to reject Grandpa.” Old Lu smiled as he patted the back of Ji Qingqing’s hands. “You are the granddaughter-in-law of the Lu family. You deserve all these.”
Although Ji Qingqing held that light paper in her hand, at that very moment, she felt as heavy as a mountain.
At night when Lu Lixing came back from work, Ji Qingqing told him what happened. Lu Lixing then replied briefly with a couple of words, “What Grandpa gave you, it’s alright to accept it. I’m taking a break tomorrow so I’ll accompany you to your house.”
“To my house?”
Lu Lixing nodded. “To have a talk with your parents regarding our marriage.”
Remembering the last meeting that ended on a bad note, Ji Qingqing actually quite disliked the Ji parents. But she understood it clearly in her heart; although she disliked them, she can’t just break off their relationship easily like that and not contact them for her whole life.
The next morning, Ji Qingqing and Lu Lixing went to the Ji house together.
During the period Ji Qingqing went to the filming studio to film, her mother kept in contact with her. But most of the time it was her assistant who answered the phone and handled her mother. Upon seeing Ji Qingqing at the door with Lu Lixing beside her, the somewhat polite expression on her mother’s face suddenly turned sour.
“Come in.”
Ji Qingqing and Lu Lixing both entered the door.
Mother Ji brought Lu Lixing a cup full of tea and placed it in front of him.
The full cup of tea was showing rudeness to the guest.
TL note: In Chinese families if the tea is full, it is an indirect way showing rudeness and being disrespectful towards the guest. Guests usually drink the tea while talking and the tea is served in cups where heat is transferred easily. So if the teacup is full, the guest may accidentally spill the tea because of the heat.
