Chapter 44 - Car Chase
Jing Yan cursed He Feng in his heart, but he did not even bother to regulate his breathing and continued to chase after them.
Although the puppy was very athletic, it could not keep up with Jing Yan’s efforts.
His forelimbs soon began to go soft, and his four limbs became sore. His bones began to crack, and more and more sticky blood flowed out of his wound, but he could not care about anything else.
He gritted his teeth and continued to chase after He Miao’s car, praying that this stupid woman would turn around soon.
He really could not hold on any longer.
His consciousness gradually faded, and his front legs suddenly went limp. His body involuntarily fell forward, and his head heavily hit a stone at the side.
The passers-by worriedly squatted down to check his wound, but Jing Yan barked at them fiercely, scaring away all the people in the way. He then moved his painful front paw again and continued to chase in the direction the car had left.
The He family’s car finally stopped in front of a villa. He Feng got out of the car first and chatted loudly with an acquaintance at the door. Thinking of He Miao, He Feng proudly introduced her to the man, “This is my daughter. Come and meet Uncle Zhou.”
“Hello, Uncle Zhou.” He Miao greeted him politely and stood behind He Feng on purpose. Not only did she put some distance between her and Zhou Cheng, but she also appeared to be very polite.
Zhou Cheng’s eyes lit up when he saw He Miao, and he immediately asked joyfully, “Is this your daughter who’s a big star?”
“No, this is my younger daughter.” When He Feng saw Zhou Cheng’s eyes, he knew that tonight’s matter would most likely be a success. The rest would depend on whether Zhou Cheng’s son liked He Miao.
However, he was not worried about that at all. Tonight, He Miao would definitely be the center of attention, overshadowing all the other girls present.
Sure enough, Zhou Cheng’s son, Zhou Zhu, walked over after parking his car. The moment he saw He Miao, his eyes were like a wolf looking at a lamb, sizing her up and down with ill intentions.
He touched his chin, not hiding the lust in his eyes at all. He moved to He Miao’s side and smiled. “Miss, let’s go in and sit. I’m going to have a drink with you tonight.”
Zhou Cheng was a little annoyed at his son’s shameless demeanor. However, he was still his son, so he would not lose his temper on the spot. He just snorted coldly and let He Feng enter the party with his head bowed.
As soon as Jing Yan rushed to the front of the villa, he saw a man smiling at He Miao. He placed one hand behind He Miao’s back, as if he could not wait to hug her.
He rushed to the door in anger, but was kicked away by the security guard. “Where did this dog come from? It’s so dirty. Leave, this is not a place you should be.”
Jing Yan was lying on the ground in pain. He was no longer the Young Master of the Jing family. He was just a dirty dog. A sense of powerlessness welled up in his heart, and he kept barking at He Miao’s back.
He Miao stopped in her tracks. She thought she was hallucinating. Otherwise, she would not have heard the sound of Onion barking.
The more she thought about it, the more difficult it was for her to calm down. Zhou Jing, who was beside her, saw her strange behavior and lowered his head to gently ask in her ear, “Miss He, are you feeling unwell? Why do you look so pale all of a sudden?”
He Miao shook her head to get rid of the unrealistic thoughts in her mind. However, she heard a dog bark behind her. She could not help but turn around and saw the bloodied and exhausted Onion lying at the door.
“Onion! How did you get here?” He Miao rushed out without a second thought and carried Onion’s small body. The bright red blood on his back stung her eyes.
Jing Yan lay weakly in her arms, his limbs hanging down limply. He could not muster any strength, and his heart was so uncomfortable that even breathing would hurt.
He gathered his strength for a long time before he managed to raise his eyes to glance at the woman who was shocked and heartbroken. Then, he closed his eyes powerlessly. Other than the pain in his heart, there was an inexplicable sense of comfort.
Fortunately, he still managed to catch up to her.
He Miao held the dog in her arms in disbelief. She could not imagine how much suffering the dog had to go through to be able to chase the car that drove so fast all the way here.
